To the World Tour in 2021
Our structure received a World Tour licence for season 2021, thanks to the takeover of the company managing CCC team inclusive its UCI licence. In this way, the team ensured participation to the most important races in the world. A new title sponsor, Intermarché, was attracted so the team was baptised Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert.
“This step up to the highest level, the first division, was a logical step for our team. We had been three times the best team in the second division, we won a major classic such as the Amstel Gold Race. It was time to step up a gear. But we stayed prudent: we did it because we were ready for it and because our loyal partners were ready to follow us.”

The team started a first challenging season in the World Tour and had to fall into line with a new program it wasn’t used to race, with all major races. During the first months of competition the results were everything but satisfying. It wasn’t going so well.
“We needed time to adapt. There was no reason to panic. It was not a nice period, we hoped for more, but the conclusion would not be made before the end of the season.”

But the only way was up! On 10th of May 2021 Taco van der Hoorn got the ball rolling for the team at the end of the third stage of the Giro d’Italia between Biella and Canale, offering the team a first magnificient Grand Tour stage win.
From then on, the team’s growth accelerated again, reaching milestone after milestone.
