Huub Artz & Zeno Moonen reinforce Circus-ReUz-Technord

Two new emerging talents will join Circus-ReUz-Technord in 2024, with Dutchman Huub Artz (21) and Belgian sprinter Zeno Moonen (20). The Continental Development team directed by Kévin Van Melsen, that concluded an exceptional first season on the road, thus attracted two reinforcements who distinguished themselves with consistency during season 2023.

Huub Artz raced for three seasons with Continental team Metec-SOLARWATT, which has produced numerous talents of the current young Dutch generation such as Sjoerd Bax, Arvid De Kleijn or Marijn van den Berg, before starting his last season in the U23 category with Circus-ReUz-Technord.

The tall and powerful rider reached a new milestone in 2023, taking his first U23 victory in the GP Color Code Bassenge in July. This success is one of his many achievements in the U23 Road Series, which he was leading until his main rival Jasper Dejaegher of Circus-ReUz-Technord defeated him for the overall win in the last race.

Recently, in the beginning of October, Artz even offered himself a first top five in a pro race, finishing fifth in the Friesland Elfstedenrace behind Jasper Philipsen and Olav Kooij. Like his compatriot Roel van Sintmaartensdijk, he showed excellent performances in the time trial discipline, with top ten finishes in the four UCI time trials in which he participated this season.

Zeno Moonen arrives from Mini Discar Cycling Team, a development club directed by former Intermarché-Circus-Wanty pro rider Grégory Habeaux. He is the second rider joining the Walloon structure coming from this club of the Liège region after Jasper Dejaegher, one of the six riders who signed a professional contract during the first season of Circus-ReUz-Technord.

Moonen, a fast rider, has won the final stage of the Tour of East-Flanders in 2022, his first year in the U23 category. This season he stepped up his game by profiling himself as a regular contender for the victory in the sprint, finishing six times on the podium and achieving top ten results in UCI races such as the Flanders Tomorrow Tour.

“The last couple of months we fought a high-quality battle, Jasper Dejaegher with Circus-ReUz-Technord and I, for the final victory in the U23 Road Series. But outside of the peloton, the contact with the team has always been friendly and personal. I immediately had a good feeling when Kévin Van Melsen and Aike Visbeek showed their interest. For me, it was an opportunity I couldn’t refuse. I’ll receive the chance to benefit from a professional environment, in which there is attention for meticulous equipment tests and choices, I can work with a sports dietitian and combine the programmes and support of the World Team and the Development team. I will make a new step in my career and I’m convinced that it will bear fruit. The team counts on me to achieve results in the U23 category on a regular base and they expect me to guide our younger elements. The path followed by Roel van Sintmaartensdijk is an inspiration. I’m looking forward to discover prestigious races such as the Giro Next Gen. And of course, when I’m racing with Intermarché-Circus-Wanty, I have the ambition to show that I have the necessary competences to become a professional cyclist!”

“I cherish the ambition to become a professional rider. To climb in the cycling pyramid and convince the bigger teams, it was my goal to win an important race this season. I collected several podiums, only a couple of centimeters separated me from achieving this victory. However, Kévin Van Melsen and Christophe Prémont noticed my potential and my consistency. It made me incredibly happy to learn that they were looking for a rider with my profile and that they were planning to invest in my chances in the sprints at the end of slightly difficult races. I’m convinced that the support of Circus-ReUz-Technord will enable me to convert my achievements into success. My second mission will be to lead Alessio Delle Vedove to the final hectometers in pure flat sprint races. As a loyal team player I’m very motivated to contribute to the collective strength of Circus-ReUz-Technord, which has been the team’s main asset in 2023.”

"In order to guarantee a balance between all different profiles in our team, we were looking for reinforcements for the Flemish classics or difficult race in general. We're convinced about the qualities of Huub Artz and Zeno Moonen in this matter. Also, they've already shown it, they will be capable of showing the colours of Circus-ReUz-Technord with regularity at the pointy end of the races in 2024." "I'm very pleased that we managed to attract Huub as a new road captain. He always adopts an aggressive racing style, he has a nose for following the important race movements, is meticulous in his preparation and has a good attitude. That's why I am convinced that he's the perfect candidate to succeed our future pro riders in this captain role alongside our younger riders. He already achieved several reference results, both with the pros, in time trials or in terms of consistency in the U23 Road Series. In 2024, Huub will follow the same trajectory as Francesco Busatto and Roel van Sintmaartensdijk by participating to all performance activities with the World Team and first pro races in the beginning of the season. I know that just like them, Huub will quickly make progression within our structure." "Last year I was already convinced of the qualities of Zeno Moonen in the sprint after his victory in the Tour of East Flanders, as it was only his first season in the U23 category. More recently, I noticed that he was the fastest rider in the final stage of the Flanders Tomorrow Tour, but that his positioning impeded him to finish on the podium. His long list of good results this season shows his capabilities of performing on various terrains. Just like Jasper Dejaegher, he also has good race insights. He followed the same development path in the club directed by Grégory Habeaux, which also convinced me that he had an ideal profile for our team."
