The Walloon World Team took its responsibility from the start of the race with Laurens Huys controlling the gap to the early breakaway of four riders. The rest of the team stayed united around Biniam Girmay in the front of the peloton.
Once the breakaway was caught with 15 kilometer to go, the sprint train guided the Eritrean rider along the exposed coastline on the roads of Palma de Mallorca. They positioned Girmay in the 180 degree corners in the final kilometer. A great sprint ended in a second place on the line. He achieved the fifth podium of the team in five race days on the Balearic Island.
