This Friday 30th of May, Biniam Girmay almost sprinted to the victory on the first stage of the Boucles de la Mayenne, which was won by Pierre Latour after an attack under the red flag.
The Eritrean rider won the sprint of the peloton for second place, three seconds behind the winner. The day before, the race started with a 5 kilometer prologue around Laval, marking the World Team’s first participation in the Boucles de la Mayenne in ten years. After the Classic Dunkerque and Rund um Köln, Biniam Girmay now has his third second-place finish in four days of racing.
"Three second places in a row demonstrate my growing form. The heat was intense at 35 degrees today, but despite that, I felt incredibly strong in the sprint after that rapid downhill final. However, the victory wasn't mine. I'm not discouraged; I'll continue to give my best to win with the team. The GC is also a target for the remaining two days. I gained some valuable bonus seconds in the sprint today, keeping the overall standings close. Tomorrow will probably be the decisive day for the GC."
