The effect of powdered Montmorency tart cherry and tart cherry juices or concentrates supplementation has been studied in various scientific research and indicates a reduction in secondary muscle damage. The research suggests that there are benefits of cherry consumption in enhancing recovery from exercise. The literature currently available clearly demonstrates the anti- inflammatory and antioxidative effects of cherries, thereby enabling an earlier return to normal muscle strength.

High quality and pure fish oil promotes to general health. The supplemtation of fish oil (Omega-3-series) is linked to reduce physiological strain, proposed to enhance activities including cardiac function, anti- inflammatory responses and exercise induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) management. It may help athletes stay healthy and/or tolerate training to a greater degree.

Curcumin is a natural polyphenol extracted from tumeric. A lot of studies describes positive effects of the supplementation of curcumin for athletes. Effects are linked to reduced inflammation and oxidative stress, decreased muscle damage through the decrease creatine kinase (CK) and pain (and better recovery and muscle performance).

Recent studies indicate that dietary nitrate supplementation reduces the oxygen (O2) content of physical activity and might enhance exercise performance. So the right amounts of nitrate supplementation might affect the physiological responses to exercise. Nitrate via pathway (NO) can be important when oxygen is needed and be in short supply in muscle during competition. That means acute and chronic nitrate foods can reduce the cost of oxygen (O2) in submaximal exercise.
