Gent-Wevelgem

Biniam Girmay returns to Ghent-Wevelgem

« One month after our victory in Ghent-Wevelgem, I realize what we accomplished that day and I’m very proud about it. Both in the peloton and in my country people often remind me about this victory. This race has a special place in the history of our team since the loss of Antoine Demoitié in 2016. These memories will last forever. This race was a milestone in my career. It changed my life, however, I always stayed the same Biniam. Tomorrow, wearing number one will motivate me even more. » « I’m really happy to be back in Belgium for my second cobble classics campaign. I love the classics in this country, I enjoy riding on the cobbles so much and I can’t explain where this feeling comes from. I discovered this kind of races last year and there’s still a progression margin in terms of course knowledge. We talk often about the classics with my teammates and the sports directors. On Sunday I’ll be surrounded by an experienced team, which is important for me. Another determining factor tomorrow will be the expected bad weather conditions. I already raced several times in the rain and the cold this season, so I start to get used to this challenge. »
