An exciting final led to the fifth top ten in five days for team Intermarché-Circus-Wanty in the Tour of Italy this Thursday. The last survivors of the early breakaway were caught in the final hectometers after a long chase of the peloton. Lorenzo Rota then took ninth place in the bunch sprint in Naples.
After his second place in the stage towards Genova last year and his ninth place in Piancavallo in 2017, Rota achieved his third top ten in the Giro. After Arne Marit, Niccolò Bonifazio and Sven Erik Bystrøm, he is the fourth different rider of the Walloon World Team to finish in the top ten of a stage in this edition.
« For the first time in this Tour of Italy I have a good feeling, after a beginning which didn't go as I hoped for. I'm happy that I sprinted to a top ten in this difficult stage today, which suited me well. Each day we are in the mix no matter the stage profile and we finish in the top ten. I'm confident that my condition will go crescendo and that I will be able to do better in the next stages. »
