ICW invests in the development of the structure, in cyclocross and in the youth categories

Exactly three years after the creation of the cyclocross team of Intermarché-Circus-Wanty, the Walloon structure of Jean-François Bourlart will start a new chapter. From the 1st of January 2023, the launch of the UCI Continental Development Team will contribute to the completion of the Intermarché-Circus-Wanty pyramid, on the one hand as a talent pool for the World Team and on the other hand as an asset for the talented cyclocross riders, who can from now on benefit from a tailor-made road program.

During the past three years, several young cyclocross riders accomplished a remarkable progress in the colors of Tormans Cyclo Cross Team, winning two world titles, two European titles and multiple national titles. In order to reinforce the successful operation under the direction of Bart and Geert Wellens, the integration of the cyclocross and Continental development team is a priority for the Performance Structure of Intermarché-Circus-Wanty in 2023.

In this context, both teams welcome Belgian rider Thijs Aerts from 1st of January 2023. In cyclocross, the 26 year old joins a young team composed of Arne Baers, Kevin Kuhn, Lauren Molengraaf, Marie Schreiber and Jelle Vermoote, who obtained ten UCI victories together this season.

2023 will also be about a name change for the cyclocross project of Jean-François Bourlart. Following a mutual agreement between the direction of Continuum Sports and Tormans Group to not extend the collaboration, the search for a new title partner for season 2023-2024 has begun.

« We launched this cyclocross project in January 2020 and constructed an effective performance structure under the direction of Bart Wellens, in which several young talents broke through and won the most prestigious titles. In this regard we are pleased to welcome Thijs Aerts, who will add his experience to our group of elite riders. We are proud on the achieved successes with this team and we’re convinced that cyclocross is a valuable discipline both on a sportive and commercial level. It is our will to continue our investment in cyclocross, but as we don’t share the same philosophy and vision as Jan Tormans anymore, we’ll continue our adventure in the mud with new partners. Before we start the search of a new title partner for season 2023-2024, I would like to express my thanks to Jan Tormans for his enthusiasm and his contribution to our structure during the past three years. »

« After racing for almost ten years for the same team, I'm looking forward to this new challenge! It will be an important step for me towards this large international structure with a World Team, a Continental Development Team and a Cyclocross Team. I can't wait to meet everyone during our combined training camp in Alicante in three weeks. During the different meetings with the direction I learned more about the shared expertise between the different teams. I would like to benefit from this professional way of working to grow as a rider. My road program with the Continental Development Team will be tailor-made and look different than before, which will be a new impulse. In this team I'll receive the opportunity to pass on my experience to the younger riders. In cyclocross I will be reunited with Bart Wellens, from who I as a teammate received advice during my first year in the U23 ranks. I can't wait to start 2023 in the colors of Tormans Cyclo Cross Team in Baal, it will be a very special moment for me! »
