Laurenz Rex sixth: “We never gave up”

"We were present at the decisive moments in the beginning of the race, until a group surprised us with more than 100 kilometer to go. Despite this setback, we stayed calm and united. We could rely on the experience of Adrien Petit or Mike Teunissen and the advice from our sports directors to handle this difficult moment and to never give up. And the team was exceptional to close the gap to the leading group. We probably also had this bit of luck you often need in the unpredictable races like the Flemish classics. The encouragements from the sports directors through the radio, when I thought we were in a lost position, pushed us to make a last effort to make the junction with the favourites and race for the podium. This sixth place in a World Tour classic bodes well for the next races, starting with Le Samyn on Tuesday, a race that suits me well."
