This Tuesday 2nd of April, Louis Barré secured his first podium in the colours of Intermarché-Wanty. By taking third place in Paris-Camembert, he continues his solid start to the season after joining the World Team.
The rider from Nantes was attentive to the echelons in the flat first half of the race and then broke away in the hilly second half around Livarot, accompanied by four other riders. After a tactical finale and the five-man sprint, Louis Barré was invited to climb onto the third step of the podium. This is his fourth top 10 finish this season after strong showings at the Trofeo Laigueglia, Classic Var, and the Tour des Alpes Maritimes.
"Even though the echelons in the beginning of the race took me out of my comfort zone, as I'm not used to fight for positions on the flat, I managed well thanks to the support of Luca van Boven, Victor Hannes, and Simone Gualdi, which allowed me to be in the first group. Once in the leading group of five, victory became the goal, and it was a tactical game in the last five kilometers. I managed to create a good gap twice, but ultimately, third place in the sprint was the best possible outcome. I thought I had the means to win, but I can be satisfied with my first podium of the season." "I've clearly progressed since joining Intermarché-Wanty. Thanks to the support of the Performance Team, I'm working more professionally. For example, in terms of nutrition with the guidance of our sports dietitian Astrid Roekens. My race program is also well-planned, with many races that suit me, which motivates me enormously. This Paris-Camembert was my comeback race after a long training period. It's an encouraging performance for the rest of my program, with my first Tour of the Basque Country, the Ardennes Classics, and the Tour de Romandie."
