This Sunday 6th of August, Gerben Kuypers won the fifth and last stage of the Tour de Namur, a race of 138 kilometer from Dinant to the Citadel of Namur.
Less than one month after his success in the Tour de Liège, he achieved his second victory in the colours of Circus-ReUz-Technord and ended third in the final classification.
It is the twentieth victory of the season for the team directed by Kévin Van Melsen, which won two of the five stage of this Tour de Namur thanks to Gerben Kuypers and sprinter Alessio Delle Vedove.
“Just like in the Tour de Liège three weeks ago, I won the final stage of the Tour de Namur. I always feel better day by day in stage races. I like difficult races, that’s why we made a plan to make the race as hard as possible. I felt really good and my teammates had full confidence in me. Their work was incredible. I attacked several times on the climbs, aiming to improve my fourth place in the general classification, but it was impossible to make a difference before the final on the Citadel. Just before the last corner, David van der Poel launched an attack. I was in second position, I could react immediately and I had the legs to pass him. This victory is a nice reward for my hard work in training. I’m very happy with my first road season with Circus-ReUz-Technord so far. I will now take some rest for one week, then I’ll race the Druivenkoers Overijse and the Egmont Cycling Race with the World Team before starting my first cyclocross season with Intermarché-Circus-Wanty!”
