Francesco Busatto shows himself in his first World Tour race

This Saturday 2nd of March, Intermarché-Wanty participated in one of the most spectacular races of the calendar, the classic Strade Bianche. The neopro of the Walloon World Team, Francesco Busatto, was one of the revelations in his very first World Tour race.

The 21 year old Italian rider distinguished himself by following the best riders in the peloton all day long in this edition, the longest in history with its 215 kilometer composed of 70 kilometer of unpaved sections.

Busatto was present in the first chasing group behind Tadej Pogacar after the decisive sector of Monte Santa Marie and reached the Piazza del Campo in Siena in fourteenth position after an effort of five hours.

"My aim today was to push myself to the maximum of my capabilities, to see how far this could bring me. And we can say it is mission accomplished. Being present between all these champions, in my favourite race and my first one in the World Tour, that's incredible. I wanted to stay in the front in the approach towards the sectors to spend minimum energy chasing and to avoid being positioned behind a gap. When I managed to follow the group of twenty riders on the sector of Monte Santa Marie, I started believing that a good result was possible. Being able to rely on experienced teammates such as Lorenzo Rota or Simone Petilli has been precious. With some extra maturity I can return the next years with the goal of even doing better."
