Biniam Girmay: “A fantastic day”

Friday July 5 saw the first time-trial stage of the Tour de France, covering 25.3 kilometers in Burgundy between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Gevrey-Chambertin.

Like the rest of the team, Biniam Girmay rode smoothly to the finish, wearing his green jersey, as he retains the lead in the points classification at the end of this seventh stage. He will wear his jersey for the third consecutive day at the start of stage eight.

In the overall standings, Louis Meintjes is in 28th place, having recorded the fastest time for Intermarché-Wanty in this time trial. He finished 37th, two minutes and twenty-seven seconds behind winner Remco Evenepoel.

Biniam Girmay
“I had a fantastic day on my time trial bike. I really enjoyed the cheering from the crowd, it’s a different feeling from when you’re in the peloton. Tomorrow is an important day, another opportunity for me to play for stage victory and score points. It’s a tough finish, which should suit me. I want to continue to approach things calmly, but I’m obviously very keen to shine tomorrow.”
