Route Adelie de Vitré

Hermans returns from Tenerife with “the ambition to do better than last year”

This Friday, Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux will start its fourth month of the season with La Route Adélie de Vitré (1/04, 1.1), the sixth race of the French Cup. Since 2007, the classic is rider on a parcours of 198 kilometer divided in two local laps through the farmland around the Breton city.

A first loop of 21.1 kilometer has to be covered six times, after which a circuit of 8.9 kilometer containing the Côte de Chênelière (800m at 5.3%) will be accomplished eight times. In the previous autumn edition in wet circumstances, Biniam Girmay went smoothly through the small corners in the final kilometer in the centre of Vitré and sprinted to fifth place, despite a crash in front of him 500 meter before the slightly uphill finish.

20 year old neopro Hugo Page showed himself several times in the French Cup in the beginning of the season with good results in the Classic Loire-Atlantique (5th), La Roue Tourangelle (11th) and the GP de Denain (16th). Next to him, his compatriot Théo Delacroix, Dutchman Boy van Poppel and Belgian riders Tom Devriendt, Kobe Goossens and Quinten Hermans will support sprinter Gerben Thijssen under the direction of Pieter Vanspeybrouck.

« Despite not having much training in the legs, I enjoyed my start of the road season in Italy. I contributed to the excellent results of Lorenzo Rota and Simone Petilli in the Trofeo Laigueglia and the Strade Bianche. I went to Tenerife for an altitude training camp with Kobe Goossens. We benefited from the excellent training conditions to get ready for the Ardennes classics. We both can't wait to return into competition. I'm curious to know how good I am compared to our competitors, because the races marked in red in my calendar are coming up and I have the ambition to do better than last year, for example my fourteenth place in the Flèche Wallonne or my twentieth place in the Amstel Gold Race. I know that this Friday, the parcours is not very selective in Vitré and that several teams will be interested in a bunch sprint. So my goal will be to assist our sprinter Gerben Thijssen as good as possible. »
