One day after the prologue, the sprinters received an opportunity to battle for the stage win in the first stage of the Deutschland Tour, on condition that they survived the four climbs on the parcours between Weimar and Meiningen.
Alexander Kristoff was well surrounded by his teammates all day and managed to follow the peloton on Dreissigacker, the final climb of the day which was fatal for many fast riders. Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux then took control of the peloton to ensure a bunch sprint. The former European champion concluded the teamwork with sixth place.
