Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux placed two riders in the top 5 of the GP Gippingen, a classic of 173 kilometer divided in seven laps around Leuggern, in the north of Switzerland.
Each of these laps contained the Rotberg (7km at 3%) which resulted in a selective race, enabling Lorenzo Rota and Georg Zimmermann to survive with the best and sprint for the victory in a group of seven riders.
Both men participated in the attacks once the early breakaway was caught with 50 kilometer to go. A group of twenty riders began the Rotberg for the last time, then the German rider attacked on the Schmidber, a non-categorized climb.
Lorenzo Rota, who finished the Giro, took fourth place. He preceded his teammate Georg Zimmermann who concluded the top five or his second good result in eight days after his podium in the Giro dell’Appennino.
