Gerben Thijssen returned into competition in Koolskamp Koers this Friday, two weeks after his crash in the Vuelta. The sprinter received the full confidence of his teammates, who protected him from the wind and on the wet roads during the thirteen laps in Koolskamp.
The sprint train of the Belgian rider led by Julius Johansen took command of the peloton in the last lap. Thijssen was confronted to a rude competition in the battle for positions and brought to the front by his lead out Boy van Poppel in the final kilometer. The sprinter of Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert took seventh place and finished second in the final classification of the Exterioo Cycling Cup behind winner Arnaud De Lie.
