Taco van der Hoorn will not defend his title

One year ago, Taco van der Hoorn won the Brussels Cycling Classic in a majestic way, thanks to a long breakaway from which only he knows the secret. The Dutchman rode nearly the whole race in the lead, in autumn circumstances and on a course containing a triple passage on the duo Muur van Geraardsbergen and Bosberg, defeating his breakaway companions in a never ending sprint from the saddle.

However, the latest winner will not line up to defend his title this Sunday as he is not fully recovered from the concussion he sustained in a crash in the Tour of Flanders on 2nd of April.

"The past two months I did what I could to recover from my bad crash in the Tour of Flanders, but unfortunately the consequences of my brain injury don't allow me to do intense sports yet. The main symptoms of overstimulation are headache and fatigue. The medical team of Intermarché-Circus-Wanty and the most experienced concussion specialists in The Netherlands closely follow the evolution of my health status. Under the supervision of neurologists I do exercices to train my brains and improve my concentration, hoping to progressively regain my full brain capacity. As my recovery process is not linear, it is impossible to determine when I will be healed sufficiently to resume a regular physical activity."
