Münsterland Giro

Koch: “Our sprint train is often rewarded”

The peloton unites for a last time this season in Germany, on the occasion of the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro (1.Pro, 3/10). This final race of the German season traditionally entirely takes place on the 3rd of October in the region Northern Rhine Westphalia. But this year, the organization chose for a start in Enschede, the Netherlands, to promote the Euregion. The official start will be given at the border with Germany, after which 188.5 kilometer on mainly flat roads follow. Five hills are spread on the parcours in the middle of the race, but they probably won’t have an impact on the sprinter’s game.

For this third race of the team on German soil, Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert can rely again on Jonas Koch and Georg Zimmermann. Their motivation to race in their home country was translated in two medals at the national championship, a double top 10 and the young rider’s jersey in the Tour of Germany and an excellent performance in Eschborn-Frankfurt two weeks ago. Boy Van Poppel is together with Jonas Koch an important element of the sprint train for Danny van Poppel, who will lead the line up in Münster. The sprint train will receive the support of Belgian riders Dries De Pooter and Ludwig De Winter. Finally, the team also brings fast Italian rider Riccardo Minali to the start.

« I often concluded my season here in the past and I did that twice by finishing in the top 15. It always gives me a special feeling to race in Germany. In my national tour I played my own card, finishing in the top 10 of the general classification, but tomorrow I'll race in my usual role as part of the sprint train for Danny. The weather circumstances this Sunday can cause a very hard race, but with this strong leader we've got chances in both a selective race and a royal sprint. I reflect with satisfaction on all sprints we've done together this season. Danny often rewarded our teamwork with nice results. I appreciate his gratefulness and respect. So I'm very motivated to go through fire again for the team this Sunday! »
