Lilian Calmejane conquers the KOM jersey

The jersey of Intermarché-Circus-Wanty continues to shine in the Tour de Suisse. After the victory of Biniam Girmay in the second stage, Lilian Calmejane attacked in the third and fourth stage, two big days in the mountains with each time a mountain top finish. His efforts were rewarded with the jersey of best climber.

In total, the Frenchman rode 200 kilometer in the lead of the race during those two days, collecting 22 points. On Tuesday, he passed first on the Col des Mosses, a difficulty of first category and 14 kilometer, before being caught after 112 kilometer. This Wednesday, he was the last survivor of a group of ten riders, winning 10 points on the climbs Crans-Montana and Varenstrasse.

"In contrary to yesterday, I was convinced that our breakaway had a chance to go to the finish today. The group was strong with a couple of big engines. We rode a strong pace of more than 60 kilometer per hour in the valley towards the climb of Crans-Montana. Despite our efforts, we arrived at the foot with an advantage of only two minutes. This shows the intensity of the stage. With the peloton chasing us, I did what I could to conquer the KOM jersey. It is always an honour to wear a distinctive jersey in a prestigious race such as the Tour de Suisse. I hope to recover well for the queen stage tomorrow and keep the jersey until the final day!"
