23. Louis Meintjes triumphs in La Vuelta atop Les Praeres from the breakaway.
« The first week of the Vuelta didn't go as planned and it seemed difficult to achieve my ambitions in GC. But it gave me the opportunity to race with more freedom for the rest of the race trying to get the most out of each day. With this mindset, I joined the breakaway in stage 9. For me, any good result in this Vuelta would be a bonus. With 10 kilometers to go, I looked at my breakaway companions and realized that this could be my day. As we began the final climb of Les Praeres, I was convinced that I could make the difference on the steep gradients. With this victory, I fulfilled one of my career goals, which was to climb on the podium of a World Tour race. »
