Contrary to the opening stage, the riders took advantage of the windy conditions in the second stage of the Tour of Catalonia (2.UWT) between L’Escala and Perpignan at the other side of the Pyrenees this Tuesday.
A classic race scenario was produced in the first race half with a breakaway of three riders within reach of the peloton. Around Argèles-sur-Mer, several teams then exploited the coastal roads to split the peloton thanks to the wind.
Just like the day before, Jan Bakelants crossed the finish line in the first peloton and took sixteenth place in the sprint. The Belgian rider is currently ninth in the provisional general classification, one day before the first stage in the Pyrenees with three climbs of first category among whom the final one to ski station La Molina.
